San Juan Singers is a mixed-voice community chorus open to experienced singers who are residents of San Juan Island. Currently, there are 2 sessions: September - December, to prepare a winter concert; January - April, to prepare a spring concert. Members pay a small monthly dues to cover the cost of music, meeting space, and other expenses associated with keeping an organization organized.
Repertoire varies from one concert to the next. Past offerings include Handel's Messiah, Pinkham's Christmas Cantata, new works by island composer, Mary WillAllen, standards (complete with swing band) by Irving Berlin, Letters from Ireland by Mac Huff, and choral standards by Palestrina, Mozart, Randall Thompson, among many, many others. We've collaborated with narators, brass quintets, drums, marimbas, harp, strings, flutes, clarinets, natural sounds...well, we love creating a wide variety of tone colors and sound textures for our audiences.
New members are welcome to try us out every September and January. We rehearse from 7-9pm Wednesday evenings, usually at the Skagit Valley Community College, Community Room. This ensemble may be taken for college credit, by arrangement with Skagit Valley Community College, Friday Harbor extension.
